Red Brick Renaissance

Alexander Strain was a master-builder, whose finely crafted, luxurious and highly sought after properties are a thing of beauty. Gauthier Gilbert and his husband Luke are the recent charmed owners of such a building – Lindsay Road, Glasnevin.

Having bought the property in October 2019, Gauthier began working on renovating straight away, eager to put his stamp on the property. Renovating a property can be daunting, never mind an Alexander Strain period property. For Gauthier, this would not phase him, as he has previous experience renovating period properties, adding – “as long as the building is structurally sound and the period features remain intact, you have already won half the battle”

Strains distinctive red-brick properties are synonymous with quality and elegance, Lindsay Road is no different. The property retained almost all of its original features including high corniced ceilings, stained glass and fireplaces. The previous owners had made some questionable design choices which included painting one of the wooden floors orange. Gauthier and Luke are no strangers to a paintbrush and roller and in a relatively short time had repainted every wall and ceiling in the house (some of them twice).

When Gauthier approached Acres Hall about supplying paint for the restoration of the hall, we were delighted to get involved. A colour palette was carefully selected to reflect the style of its owners and which compliments the history of this period home – a Finest Eggshell for the wooden panelling and a Finest Matt for the walls.

Wall Paint Colour: Causeway – Wood Panelling Colour: Range White

The walls, painted in Causeway, a Finest Matt which is part of the Acres Hall Colour Collection. Causeway has a delicate balance of green and grey that evokes emotions of warmth and classical atmosphere.

The wood panelling, painted in Range White, a Finest Eggshell which is part of The Acres Hall Colour Collection. Range White is a tasteful neutral which is beautifully balanced, evoking a classic sense of style and comfort.

Gauthier believes that “the right colour on your wall can create atmosphere, allure, drama plus mystery. In our opinion, no paint does this in quite the same way as Acres Hall. They capture the essence of the modern Irish home while paying respect to the past”.

The feedback from Gauthier was extremely positive, “We’ve used all of the major high-end paint brands in our restoration journey and none of them can hold a candle to Acres Hall. Their colour choice is second to none, no drips, perfect one-coat coverage, it even smells great. I recommend anyone planning on painting a room to use this product”.

We have over 120 colours to choose from in our Colour Collection available in four finishes.
